Ask The Mayor

Q. - I work off 2578, and have reported the
street lights out on 2578 from Hwy 34 to the Bridge Crossing Interstate
20 several times, and they have still not been fixed.
The last follow up call I made I was told I
needed to get all the pole numbers with burned out lights back to her,
and she then would report them.
My question is, why should I have to collect
these pole numbers, to get these lights repaired? Don't we have a Department
for this?
This road is very dark without all these lights,
and as a woman working in an office by myself, I find somewhat unsafe
when I am here after dark, especially this time of year with it getting
dark earlier.
Answer - Some of the reason for delay in responding
to your inquiry was that, as it turned out, only one of the lights was
a city street light. Two of the lights that were out were private guard
lights, not city street lights.
Citizens may consider them all street lights, but it makes a difference
as to
the responsible party. If someone wants to report the pole numbers it
would be helpful but the City and the utility company should and will
sort out the problem with or without the pole number.
The City staff will work to prevent a citizen having to call more than
once
to get a response.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards, Mayor
