Ask The Mayor

Q. - In your response to the illegals in Terrell,
you stated that, It's a federal law you should leave it up to them....
But so is drugs, so does that mean you will not enforce those issues?
Answer - Thanks for your inquiry.
Every level of government has traditional and constitutional primary
responsibilities.
The City of Terrell’s first priority is to provide for public
safety and health. We enforce laws that put public safety and health
at risk. Our second priority is to provide essential services (water,
sewer, streets, etc.) to our citizens. Our third priority is to provide
services and facilities that improve our citizens’ quality of
life: parks, library, economic development, recreation opportunities,
etc.
As we try to meet these three responsibilities, there are no resources
left for the City to lead the way in attacking problems that, constitutionally,
should be addressed by State and Federal Government.
The ultimate answer is for each level of government to meet its obligations
to citizens.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards, Mayor
