Ask The Mayor

Mayor Hal Richards

Q. - What are the current ordinances regarding carbon monoxide detectors in homes and businesses in Terrell? Are they required and if not, how would I lead a campaign to get them required?

Answer - There is no requirement in the City for residents to have carbon monoxide detectors. No doubt, this is a real safety enhancement for houses that have fuel burning appliances.

We have a lot of all-electric homes in Terrell and a carbon monoxide (CO) detector would not be needed for those houses. I believe that it might be more helpful if you wanted to work on a public campaign to educate those who would benefit by installing and maintaining CO detectors.

You live close to the City limit boundary. If you are in the City limits, your Council member for District 5 would be Don Thurman. He would be someone who could serve as a resource for you.

In addition, you could contact our fire department or the municipal development department to get their input.

I appreciate your good will in wanting our citizens to be safe.

Sincerely,

Hal Richards, Mayor
