Ask The Mayor

Q. - My concern is the new baseball complex. I know
a lot of people worked hard to get these built and get the Little League
World Series here.
Ever since the World Series has gone the baseball
fields and the landscaping have gotten worse.
What can we do to get the complex a face lift
and the possibility of getting the World Series back? If I understand
correctly, this was great for the companies and hotels and restaurants
during that week. It would be a great way to bolster the Terrell economy
again.
Answer - The new baseball fields were constructed
in advance of the Dixie League World Series hosted in Terrell. Putting
on that event was one of the Terrell community's shining moments. It
was a tremendous success because of the efforts of many organizations
and the work of literally hundreds of volunteers.
It would be great if we could have another event like the Dixie World
Series again. Perhaps some of our organizations in town will consider
taking on that task.
The only landscaping that was done was the installation of new grass
on the infields. We have had two visits in the last five years from
the Dixie League Directors and they have been complimentary of the condition
of the facility. They have even sent prospective host community representatives
here to see what we are doing.
As the facilities age, we certainly need to do continuous repairs and
upgrading to keep them looking nice. With the budget cuts we made this
year there will not be any large expenditures at the ball fields this
year. Our Parks Department will work to maintain the fields, using the
resources to the best advantage.
Sincerely,
Hal Richards, Mayor
